FISCHER & KRECKE’s SMARTGPS (Graphic Positioning System) first introduced at Drupa this year caused a sensation among experts during the exhibition. In the many weeks since Drupa, this fervent interest has not diminished. Printers from all parts of the world are currently testing the new system with their own print forms and on various substrates.
The Bielefeld, Germany based manufacturer – a member of Bobst Group since April this year – has made available for this ‘pre-release’ period of SMARTGPS both the new 10C model FP 16S-10 flexo press which was presented at Drupa - and the more compact 8C model FP 14S.

The compact 8C model FP 14S is also available for SMARTGPS test runs
“Innovative technologies like SMARTGPS obviously arouse a lot of interest, but we never expected to be so inundated with requests for testing,” explained Werner Fasse, FISCHER & KRECKE Marketing Manager “The tests under production conditions with the visitors’ hardware have been very successful, have provided further insights for the technology and have also speeded up the process on its way to maturity,” he further commented.
SMARTGPS sets a milestone in flexographic printing, because the inefficient processes of registering and impression setting are completely eliminated and take place virtually during the stage of plate mounting. The reduction of change-over time and material usage results in substantial cost savings in production which can easily amount to several hundred thousand Euros per year.
After its release for production, which is expected for the end of this year, the new system will be available for all applications and hardware configurations. Until then interested printers will have the opportunity of testing SMARTGPS in simulated production conditions in Bobst Group’s Bielefeld ‘Centre of Excellence’ for flexo printing solutions.
