Increased Business at Weedon PSC Drives Twin BOBST Purchase Including UK’s First VISIONFOLD Easyset
Weedon PSC, one of the UK’s leading corrugated packaging solution companies, has taken delivery of a new BOBST VISIONFOLD folder-gluer and a BOBST VISIONCUT diecutter. The machines are needed to meet strongly increased demand from discount retailers for Weedon PSC’s retail ready packaging. The VISIONFOLD is the first of its type in the UK and has replaced three existing machines.
“We have seen strong growth in demand for innovative corrugated packaging solutions over the past twelve months,” said John Weedon, Managing Director of Weedon PSC. “Within this growth there has been a noticeable increase in orders for retail ready packaging. To satisfy this increased level of business we need to expand our conversion capacity, which is why we have ordered a VISIONFOLD and VISIONCUT from BOBST.”

The VISIONFOLD is a 170 cm wide Easyset version of the folder-gluer, the first of its type to be installed in the UK. The Easyset system does away with the need for cranks and spindles to set the machine, the operator simply pushing the carriers into position by hand. The folder-gluer also features BOBST’s Accufeed system which includes a blank aligning unit and ensures quick and accurate setting of the machine. The line has been specified with a Baumer hhs multipoint glue system. Weedon PSC took delivery of the machine in mid-November and it is now in full production, having replaced three existing folder-gluer lines.
“With the VISIONFOLD we not only get a huge increase in capacity, which secures our ability to keep our customers supplied, but we also get the opportunity to fold and glue types of work we couldn’t before. On top of this, the quality of folding from the VISIONFOLD is ideally suited to packaging destined for machine erecting, something our customers increasingly specify,” said John Weedon.
During December, Weedon PSC took delivery of a BOBST VISIONCUT diecutter which will supplement the plant’s existing BOBST SPO 160-VISION. The new machine features an increased running speed of 4'800 sheets per hour, along with enhanced ergonomics which make it possible to change jobs in less than 10 minutes.
“Because of the increased demand for our products, we have been running the SPO 160-VISION twenty four hours a day. The VISIONCUT will give us the extra capacity we need, and also upgrades us to the latest technology,” said John Weedon.
Weedon PSC prides itself in being able to offer a ‘One Stop Shop’ project management facility to those brand owners and retailers looking for a complete packaging service: from concept and creative design, manufacturing, reprographics and flexo printing, to in-house packing, fulfilment and European wide distribution.
